About this role
OBJECTIVES
1. Research planning
- Contribute to research design and Terms of Reference, including sampling, data collection tools, data analysis plans and data management plans, under appropriate technical guidance.
- Work with assessment colleagues to translate agreed questionnaires into Kobo/ODK tools; test skip logic, constraints, calculations and translations before deployment.
- Support sampling calculations and sample preparation with assessment and GIS colleagues, documenting assumptions and limitations.
- Prepare data quality checks, cleaning procedures and analysis scripts in R. Agree task timelines with the line manager and report delays or technical issues promptly.
2. Research implementation
- Support enumerator training on data collection tools, data quality and data protection, and provide technical support during data collection.
- Run regular checks for completeness, consistency, duplicates, outliers and sampling progress; share actionable feedback with assessment and field teams.
- Check geographical references with GIS colleagues where relevant and resolve discrepancies with the responsible teams.
- Document changes to tools, sampling or data collection procedures and raise proposed methodological changes with the line manager for the required approvals.
3. Data management cleaning and analysis
- Clean and validate quantitative and qualitative datasets in line with REACH standards. Maintain cleaning logs and document decisions with assessment colleagues.
- Develop and maintain reproducible R scripts for data processing and analysis, including agreed indicators, disaggregation, weighting and statistical analysis as appropriate.
- Organize datasets, scripts and documentation using agreed naming, version control, storage and access procedures; maintain recurring data collection tools and workflows as assigned.
- Check analysis against the agreed data analysis plan, explain methodological limitations, and submit datasets, scripts and outputs for technical review before use.
4. Output production
- Prepare accurate datasets, summary tables, charts and other analysis products for reports, factsheets and presentations, in collaboration with assessment colleagues.
- Support dashboards, web maps and other information products according to skills and assigned portfolio, working with GIS and other technical colleagues.
- Ensure figures and findings are consistent with the approved methodology and final datasets; address review comments and support required Acted HQ validation before external release.
- Provide the line manager with updates on output progress and deadlines, and support maintenance of online products where assigned.
5. External engagement and dissemination
- At the line manager’s request, contribute technical inputs to partner consultations, joint analysis, product reviews and dissemination activities.
- Represent REACH in relevant meetings or present findings only with prior line manager approval; document discussions and follow up on agreed technical actions.
- Support partners’ understanding and appropriate use of REACH data and findings, including their limitations, while complying with approved data sharing arrangements.
6. Knowledge sharing and learning
- Contribute to lessons learned exercises and document improvements to data collection, processing and analysis workflows.
- Share reusable scripts, guidance and technical knowledge with colleagues and support practical learning for data interns or other staff as assigned, under senior technical guidance.
7. Data confidentiality and protection
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all data and related processes, in compliance with REACH data protection policies and standard operating procedures.
- Apply agreed access controls, secure storage and transfer procedures, and anonymization requirements. Do not share data externally without the required authorisation.
- Promptly report suspected data breaches or protection concerns to the line manager and follow organizational procedures. Comply with Acted policies and codes of conduct, including safeguarding requirements.
