Sky Gate Duty Free PLC is a newly established travel retail company with a vision to become one of the leading duty-free retail operators in Ethiopia and across the region.

Our operations require accurate, consistent, secure, and well-structured master data to support procurement, imports, warehousing, inventory, pricing, finance, and duty-free retail operations. We are looking for a highly capable Master Data Manager who can establish and maintain strong master data governance and ensure the accuracy and integrity of critical business data across the organization.

JOB SUMMARY

The Master Data Manager will be responsible for the overall management, governance, maintenance, and quality of Sky Gate Duty Free's master data, including product/item, supplier, customer, pricing, inventory, and other relevant master data within the company's ERP and related systems.

The successful candidate will ensure that master data is accurate, complete, consistent, standardized, secure, and available on time, enabling efficient business operations and reliable reporting across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Master Data Management

  • Manage and maintain the company's master data across ERP and related business systems.
  • Establish and maintain standardized master data structures, naming conventions, codes, classifications, and data attributes.
  • Create, update, validate, and deactivate master data records in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, consistency, and integrity of master data.
  • Develop and maintain master data standards, procedures, workflows, and approval processes.
  • Ensure proper documentation and traceability of master data changes.
  • Identify and eliminate duplicate, incomplete, outdated, or inconsistent data.
  • Maintain appropriate controls over access, creation, modification, and approval of master data.

Product & Item Master Data

  • Manage the creation and maintenance of product/item master records for duty-free merchandise.
  • Ensure accurate product descriptions, item codes, categories, brands, units of measure, dimensions, weights, country of origin, tax-related information, and other required attributes.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate product hierarchies, categories, subcategories, and classifications.
  • Ensure product information is aligned across Procurement, Import, Warehouse, Commercial, Retail, and Finance functions.
  • Coordinate the timely creation of new product master data before product receipt, inventory, pricing, and sales activities.
  • Monitor product data quality and resolve discrepancies affecting inventory and retail operations.

Supplier, Customer & Business Partner Data

  • Manage and maintain supplier, vendor, customer, and other business partner master data.
  • Verify submitted information and supporting documentation before creating or modifying records.
  • Ensure consistency of supplier and business partner information across relevant systems.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, Import, and other departments to resolve data discrepancies.
  • Maintain appropriate controls to prevent duplicate or unauthorized master records.

ERP & Systems Management

  • Ensure effective use and maintenance of master data within the company's ERP/Warehouse Management System.
  • Work closely with IT and system implementation teams to ensure master data structures support business requirements.
  • Participate in ERP configuration, system enhancement, testing, data migration, and system upgrade activities where required.
  • Develop and maintain master data templates and standardized data-entry procedures.
  • Support integration of master data between ERP, warehouse, retail, finance, and other business systems.
  • Monitor system data and identify errors, inconsistencies, and process gaps.

Data Quality & Governance

  • Establish and monitor master data quality standards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct regular data quality reviews, audits, and reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve data inconsistencies and discrepancies.
  • Develop controls to prevent inaccurate or incomplete data from entering the system.
  • Establish clear data ownership and accountability across departments.
  • Ensure compliance with approved master data policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Maintain a controlled process for master data creation, modification, approval, and deletion.

Reporting & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Commercial, Procurement, Import, Warehouse, Finance, Retail, IT, and Management teams to ensure accurate and timely master data.
  • Prepare regular reports on master data quality, completeness, accuracy, pending requests, and data-related issues.
  • Provide data analysis and recommendations to improve business processes and operational efficiency.
  • Support management with accurate master data required for reporting, planning, forecasting, and decision-making.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to establish clear timelines for new product and supplier data creation.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the master data team where applicable.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance standards, and workflows for master data activities.
  • Train users on master data procedures, data standards, and system requirements.
  • Promote a strong culture of data accuracy, accountability, and standardization across the organization

Requirements

About You

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Data Management, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Additional certification or training in ERP, data management, data governance, or business analytics is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in master data management, ERP administration, data governance, business systems, supply chain, finance, or related functions.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience managing product/item master data, supplier/vendor data, inventory data, or other ERP master data is required.
  • Experience in retail, FMCG, distribution, travel retail, duty-free, or a similar fast-paced environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and large datasets is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of master data management, data governance, and data quality principles.
  • Strong experience working with ERP systems, preferably CNET or similar systems.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, validation, lookup functions, pivot tables, and reporting.
  • Understanding of product/item coding, categorization, units of measure, product hierarchies, and inventory-related master data.
  • Ability to identify data inconsistencies, duplicates, errors, and process gaps.
  • Good understanding of ERP data flows across procurement, inventory, warehouse, sales, and finance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
