Senior Digital Health and AI Consultant

JSI Ethiopia is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Senior Digital Health and AI Consultant to provide technical and managerial thought leadership in the rapidly evolving intersection of healthcare, digital systems, and artificial intelligence

This role is built on three core pillars: (1) providing high-level technical guidance on national digital health initiatives through sustained engagement with the Ministry of Health and key partners; (2) leading the implementation and capacity building for Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions within the Ethiopian health sector; and (3) driving innovation to support new business development for JSI in Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

1. Digital Health Thought Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

• Strategic Guidance: Provide managerial and technical thought leadership for key digital health initiatives across the Ethiopian health sector.
• MOH & Partner Engagement: Serve as the liaison and technical advisor to the Ministry of Health and its development partners, ensuring continuous, high-quality engagement and guidance.
• System Strengthening: Continuously assess the digital health landscape in Ethiopia, advising JSI and partners on best practices, scale-up strategies, and interoperability standards to strengthen the national health information system.
• Coordination & Advocacy: Represent JSI in national technical working groups and strategic forums, advocating for evidence-based digital health policies and investments.
• 2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Leadership & Capacity Building
• AI Implementation: Lead the strategic pipeline of AI works in the health sector, collaborating closely with the Ministry of Health and Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) to design, pilot, and scale AI solutions tailored to health system needs.
• Ethical AI Advocacy: Spearhead the familiarization and operationalization of Ethical and Responsible AI Guidelines within health programs, ensuring all deployments are safe, unbiased, and patient-centric.
• Training & Curriculum Development: Design comprehensive training packages on AI fundamentals for health sector professionals.
• Prompt Engineering & Practical AI: Conduct hands-on training sessions focused on practical AI applications, including prompt engineering specifically contextualized for healthcare providers, policymakers, and program managers.
• 3. Innovation & New Business Development
• Strategic Innovation: Continuously monitor global and regional tech trends to bring forward-thinking, innovative ideas that solve local health challenges.
• Proposal Development: Provide technical input and strategic design for new business development opportunities within the Ethiopian health sector, integrating cutting-edge digital and AI solutions into proposals.
• Partnership Expansion: Identify and cultivate new strategic partnerships with tech hubs, private sector innovators, and academic institutions to expand JSI’s digital portfolio.

• Education: Master’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Health, or a related field.
• Experience:
• • Minimum of 10 years of senior-level experience in digital health, health informatics, or health technology implementation.
  • Experience working directly with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, EAII, and other key national stakeholders is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence applications, data science, or emerging technologies (experience with LLMs and prompt engineering is highly preferred).
