Presales - Electrical Engineer
ASA Trading PLC Addis Ababa · Addis Ababa Posted 3h ago
About this role
ASA Solutions designs, supplies, and installs the power infrastructure behind Ethiopian banks, data centers, and telecom facilities. We are a partner of Schneider Electric, Huawei, Eaton, and Siemens, and we deliver everything from bank-wide UPS rollouts to prefabricated data center builds.
We are hiring an electrical engineer to own the technical side of our LV power projects — designing the solution, pricing it, defending it, and being there when it goes in.
The goal is to develop an engineer who can carry a project end to end: survey it, design it, price it, install it, and fix it when it fails. Most engineers only ever see one or two of those stages. Here you will see all of them.
Read this part before you apply
Your first several months are deliberately site-heavy. You will be out with our service and installation teams on preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and new installations — because you cannot write a credible BOQ/proposal without site experience. That means learning the products hands-on, learning how our technicians actually work, and meeting the clients you will later be designing for.
Some of that work falls on weekends. Data centers and banks give us maintenance windows outside business hours, and that is when the work happens
Once you are up to speed, the balance shifts to roughly 80% office and 20% site, with site time concentrated around surveys, installations, and commissioning.
Requirements
Who you will report to
You report to the Sales Manager. During installation and commissioning phases you will work under the Service Manager and site team lead, and you are expected on site for the duration — but your primary line, and how your work is measured, sits with Sales.
What you will do
- Design LV power solutions — SLDs, panel schedules, and layout drawings in AutoCAD, covering UPS systems, LV switchgear, ATS/MTS, distribution panels, generator interfaces, and solar/hybrid inverters.
- Build the technical offer — proposals, compliance tables, and BOQs . You will typically have two or three live bids running at once, often against tight submission deadlines.
- Survey sites before you design — load data, environmental conditions, and installation constraints, written up with photos and recommendations.
- See installations through — on site with the service team through installation, testing, and commissioning, reviewing shop drawings and method statements, and signing off that the work meets manufacturer and IEC standards.
- Be the technical escalation point — when a fault does not resolve at the technician level, it comes to you. Escalate and raise ticket with manufacturer, help with diagnosing UPS, switchgear, and control faults from first principles, coordinating with manufacturer and onsite team on the fix, and supporting the service team through it.
- Handle the technical conversation — design reviews, project meetings, and questions from clients and consultants.
What we need
- BSc in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–5 years in LV systems design, installation, or commissioning.
- Solid AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of electrical protection, earthing, cabling, and IEC standards.
- Ability to write a technical proposal and a BOQ that stands up to client scrutiny.
- Diagnostic ability under pressure — you can work a fault back to root cause on live equipment, not just follow a service manual.
- Availability for scheduled weekend and after-hours maintenance windows.
Nice to have
ETAP or similar (load flow, short-circuit, protection studies) · Revit · PLC/SCADA · prior data center, or industrial project experience.
If you have most of this and not all of it, apply anyway.
What we offer
- Competitive salary with allowances and performance incentives, reviewed at [6/12 months].
- Manufacturer training and certification with Schneider Electric, Huawei, Eaton, and Siemens — including international programs.
- Product knowledge you can only get on live sites, not from a datasheet.
- Technical ownership from early on. You will be the person the service team calls when something does not add up.
- Project scale you will not get everywhere: national banking infrastructure, data centers, large industrial sites.
- A path to end-to-end ownership: within two years, running your own projects from first survey through final commissioning — and the senior engineering or project management route that follows.
